As in most European countries, anti-tobacco legislation has been tightened in Albania. The first attempts to ban were made back in 2007, but they were not successful, but the legislation of 2014 is working.
The problem also lies in the fact that there are many smokers in the country (about a third of the country’s population), who still violate the law, but not as massively as it was before. At the official level, it is forbidden to smoke in cafes, restaurants, public transport stops, playgrounds, educational institutions and other public places. The amount of the fine starts from 35 euros, which is not so small by local standards.
I can’t say that if you smoke somewhere on the street, then representatives of local authorities will definitely come up to you and fine you, but it’s better not to risk it.
